Campaign Story

This Ramadan, I am raising funds as a volunteer with Islamic Relief South Africa to support families in Gaza, where survival itself has become a daily struggle.

For over two years, Gaza has endured relentless bombardment, siege, and the collapse of essential services. Famine has been declared. Children are sleeping hungry. Parents are watching their loved ones suffer without access to food, clean water, or medical care.

Allah (SWT) reminds us:

And what is [the matter] with you that you do not fight in the cause of Allah and for the oppressed among men, women, and children…”
(Qur’an 4:75)

While we may not be able to stand beside them physically, we are not free from responsibility. Their suffering is an amaanah, a trust placed upon this Ummah.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The believers, in their mutual compassion, mercy and sympathy, are like one body; when one limb suffers, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever.
(Sahih al-Bukhari 6011, Sahih Muslim 2586)

Today, Gaza is that wounded limb.

Through Islamic Relief, your donation will provide emergency food, clean water, cash assistance, medical aid, and specialised nutrition to families facing starvation and trauma.

Your generosity can have an immediate impact:
• R2,500 can feed a family for two weeks
• R4,150 can provide a household with cash to meet essential needs
• R12,500 can provide specialised nutrition for malnourished people

Please don’t underestimate any amount. Even the smallest donation is accepted and valued,  Allah looks at sincerity, not size.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Protect yourself from the Fire even with half a date.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 1417, Sahih Muslim 1016)

Ramadan is the month in which rewards are multiplied beyond measure. The Prophet ﷺ said:
Charity does not decrease wealth.
(Sahih Muslim 2588)

If we are blessed with food, safety, and comfort, then responding to those deprived of these blessings is not optional…it is part of our faith.

If you are able to donate, please do so. If you are unable, sharing this campaign is also an act of charity.

May Allah accept this as sadaqah jariyah, bring relief to the oppressed, and not deprive us of the reward of responding when we were able. Ameen.
