Short Story

Sudan is currently facing one of the world’s largest hunger crises. After more than 18 months of relentless conflict and siege, famine has now been officially declared in parts of the country, including El Fasher and Kadugli. This means that people are already dying of starvation. More than 17.7 million people are facing acute food insecurity, with about5 million on the verge of famine.

Families fleeing famine-affected areas are arriving malnourished, exhausted and traumatised , after walking for days with little or no food or water. In the face of this catastrophe, community-led Takaaya kitchens have become a vital lifeline, rooted in Sudanese culture and Islamic principles of Zakat and Sadaqah, providing food, dignity and hope to displaced families.

This Ramadan, I’m raising funds for Sudan through Islamic Relief. Even as little as R10 can make a difference when we come together.

Your donation can directly impact families:

  • R2500 feeds a family for two weeks

  • R4100 provides a household cash grant for essentials for one month

  • R12 500 provides specialised nutrition for twenty malnourished people

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“Charity does not decrease wealth.” (Muslim)

Let’s turn our fasting into action this Ramadan.

Campaign Story

Sudan is currently experiencing a devastating humanitarian crisis. Millions have been displaced from their homes due to conflict. Families are living without stable shelter, food insecurity is rising rapidly, and access to clean water and medical care has become critically limited.

More than 8 million people have been forced to flee their homes, and millions are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance. 3.4 million children are malnourished and at extreme risk.

This Ramadan, while we break our fast with food and water, many families in Sudan are unsure where their next meal will come from.

The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The believers, in their mutual love, mercy and compassion, are like one body. When one part of the body suffers, the whole body responds with sleeplessness and fever.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

As part of this Ummah, we cannot ignore their suffering.

Through Islamic Relief’s on-the-ground efforts, donations will help provide:

  • Emergency food packs

  • Clean water

  • Medical assistance

  • Cash grants for essential household needs

  • Specialised nutrition for malnourished individuals

Ramadan is the month of mercy, generosity and multiplied rewards. This is our opportunity to respond, not just with du’a, but with action.

Even a small amount can contribute to real relief when we act together.

Please donate whatever you can and share this page widely.
May Allah accept our charity, ease the hardship of our brothers and sisters in Sudan, and allow this Ramadan to be a means of relief for them. Ameen.
